Reading this a few days before Easter was so refreshing. I will now enter these days of mourning and celebration with new emotions and love for my Savior. It's amazing to me how the little details of essential oils had a purpose for being included in this account.Product details

Essential Oils and the Passion of Christ Derin Stidd Ernie Yarbrough 9781521208144 Books Reviews
nice
Very good book, loved it. Very appropriate for the Easter week and weekend.
I enjoyed Derin Stidd's biblical references to oils used in Jesus lifetime. I had never thought about how smells can be strong reminders for memories when it comes to scripture and those whom would have experienced them. This is a simple but thoughtful book. It was a timely read for me this Easter season as I read it on Good Friday from my . I think it would make a great gift any time of the year.
Please proceed with caution - this author is making very presumptuous statements about contextual details in the Bible and assumptions about what Jesus might have been thinking and feeling in the days leading up to His death, all in an attempt to weave essential oils into the story. For example, in the first section, he discusses spikenard, which was the oil/perfume that Mary used to anoint Jesus' feet. He states (under the assumption that this is literally spikenard essential oil) that because spikenard essential oil is known to "reduce tension, minimize stress, and promote a sense of reassurance," that this "would have brought a much needed reprieve from His internal, emotional turmoil," knowing that the day of His death was drawing near. I do not know where the author gets the idea that Jesus needed emotional support from a substance poured from a bottle. I find that outrageous. He fails to mention that when Jesus was troubled, He prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane (Matthew 2636-46). Just as Jesus prayed to His Heavenly Father, so should we, when we are distressed or in need of strength and support. This was just one example, but I wanted to caution those who go through this book to please consider what the Bible says.
Have you ever noticed the Scriptural references to spikenard, myrrh, aloes (sandalwood), and other essential oils in the account of Christ's death and resurrection, and wondered about their significance? Have you ever considered whether or not they had a purpose or what that purpose was?
God's design of our five senses is indeed a great gift, and we see their importance throughout the Word of God. We are fearfully and wonderfully made, and essential oils impact our bodies, emotions, and even our memories in amazing ways. Jesus was anointed with essential oils on several occasions; have you ever wondered why?
Our friend, Derin A Stidd wrote this easy-to-read booklet as a devotional tool for you to ponder this Good Friday.
I challenge you to take an hour today to meditate on the words of Scripture, as Derin takes you on an aromatic journey through the darks days of Christ's sacrificial death to the bright and glorious triumph of His Resurrection!
And, if you have on hand the essential oils mentioned in Scripture, try to have them in front of you as you study through these verses. Apply and inhale each one, and experience the Words of Scripture in a whole new way!
I loved this book it is a quick easy read with lots of great information. Definitely a keeper and quite thought provoking.
Pastor Derin has written this in such a way that it quite frankly brought me to my spiritual knees. The Passion of Christ is paramount for the Christian believer and is what our faith hinges on in our salvation. Pastor Derin not only was able to communicate the important Gospel message of the cross in this book, but he captivated the senses by describing the significance of the different aromatics used throughout the whole process of the week leading up to Christ's crucifixion as well as His triumphant resurrection.
Very short but impactful read that I believe will bless those who pick this up. Soli Deo Gloria!
